Fashion Review - Sportcraft Summer 2009

090617_SportsCraft_SS10_D3_19-070702

Sportscraft’s August delivery introduces the summer collection with a bold and exciting colour palette. The delivery sees an offering of updated classics with a relaxed, contemporary urban feel that embodies the brand’s Australian
heritage and considers our customer’s lifestyle and wardrobe needs. August incorporates levels of blues throughout the womenswear apparel, starting with soft pastels, which develop into wedgewood, cobalt and rich French navy.

From here emerald green is injected as the pop colour for the month, offset with mint in the casual-wear, with all colours complemented with a neutral base of bone and silver.

Bags for August reflect the brand philosophy of sophistication and simplicity. Hardware is limited and focus placed on usability. The Frida barrel bag $349.00 available in taupe is the standout bag for the month with top and front accessibility.

Neck scarves are key for August and new to the Sportscraft range. The Raine Scarf, in a colour palette of
blue, green and citron $39.95, sit back perfectly with the casual wear for August. Hats are standout with the Miller Trilby in natural $69.95.

This season Sportscraft introduce the ‘Non-Print’, meaning a softer version of modern geometrics. This print will be available in the Print Tuck Pleat Dress $269.95 and the Print Tie Front Blouse $169.95. The Liberty style print shirt $129.95 is introduced which is a popular trend here and overseas. Wear with the Sateen blazer, available in bone and black $249.00 and a Classic Jean $139.95 for daytime chic. The key dress for August is the Denim Shirt Dress $199.95, a perfect work-wear or weekend option.

The menswear August collection is based on the Explorer, with the collection celebrating our customer’s love of the outdoor lifestyle. Menswear for August is directional with its colour palette, whilst still incorporating brand classics. A nautical theme is also apparent this month evident in the Lorien Crew Neck Knit in a blue and natural stripe $119.95 and the Chambray Shirt $129.95. The Simon short sleeve check shirt $89.95 available in a red and blue check is the standout item for August, designed to be worn back with a short, jean or chino. The classic Sportscraft polo $59.95 is available in grass, red and grey mélange.

Cost Per Wear - Easy Steps to get More wear out of your Wardrobe!

It is a tempting time at the shops at the moment as on one side you will have great discounts of 30-50% off last season's stock and on the other side the new looks for Spring. Great timing to have a good look at your current wardrobe to analyse what the "Cost per Wear" is of the items in your wardrobe.

As a Fashion Stylist I regularly see overflowing wardrobes (both Women's and Men's) and my Clients still have a feeling of "I have nothing to Wear" every day. Sounds Familiar...?

Well there are a few Easy steps to take and some of my secrets I share with my Clients during my consultations:

1.    Go through your Wardrobe every 3-4 months, you will be juiced about items you have not seen for a while. In the April newsletter I have shared tips on how I do this for my clients. Just click here to get the Style Angel insights

2.     A crucial rule in acquiring a wardrobe of great looking, useful and cost effective clothes is to consider what you need and how much to spend, both annually and on each item. Rarely do we stop to think of what our clothes are really costing us to wear. Commonly inexpensive items can be found to be expensive if worn infrequently, while expensive garments can be found to be inexpensive if they are worn often.

Before purchasing another garment take the time to study this Cost per Wear Formula.

Style in..... Tokyo JAPAN by Monique Dekker

We have asked people from all around the world to share with us their Style tips of the place they call home. If you would like to contribute to Style In.... just click here to contact us.

What Place are you writing about?
Tokyo, Japan Monique Elle

A Little About You
My name is Monique Dekker, a Dutch National currently living and working in Tokyo. I have been in Tokyo for almost two years now. Before Tokyo, my husband Ben and I lived in Singapore, Chicago, Boston and New York.

Tokyo is a huge Metropolis. 17 million people live in Tokyo and about 37 million people live in Tokyo and its suburbs. Needless to say it is a hectic and fast-paced environment. I am currently the General Manager of Roppongi Hills Club a private members dining Club managed by Hyatt Hotels Corporation (www.roppongihillsclub.com). I have worked for Hyatt for 14 years now and this is my first General Managers position. The Club is a very exciting and exclusive environment. Our members are very diverse; ranging from high-placed politicians and ambassadors, powerful business men and women, actors and actresses, models to entrepeneurs, designers and artists. Both Japanese as well as foreigners!

In my free time I like to discover new places and traditions of Japan, play with my dog Ringo – the naughtiest beagle on the planet. As well as swim, bike and run with my husband Ben who set up his own company in Tokyo specialized in bike fitting and consultancy www.t1bicycles.com

Your Favorite Place to Shop?
The most important outfit in Tokyo is a black suit. Everyone in Tokyo owns several black suits and conservative ties/blouses and shoes. Hyatt also requires its managers to wear black suits so I have several.

Unfortunately since I am Dutch and at least 20-30cm taller than the average Japanese woman, it is very difficult for me to shop here. I have all my suits made in Hong Kong by a wonderful tailor – Vijay from NobleHouse. For shoes, blouses etc. I take a few trips abroad or order them online.

There are however, great shops in Tokyo. All big fashion houses have several stores in different areas of Tokyo – like Omotesando, Ginza and Roppongi. Japanese have an obsession with name brands and they all (both women and men) wear handbags by Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci etc. I can assure you that all these bags are real and not from the market somewhere in Thailand. Japanese people like to dress up. The women love anything with glitter, glimmer, sparkles, lace, pearls and ruffles. There are several very cute boutiques in Omotesando and Roppongi that provide this style. Fashion for a younger audience can be found in Shinjuku and Shibuya, as long as you can handle the pounding house-music coming from the store’s speakers.

Any Local designers you have found?
The Japanese are known to be very fashion conscious and some great designers have arisen; Issey Miyake, Kenzo Takada and Hanae Mori to name a few. I have not really found (or looked for) any local small designers, as their items will not fit me. As a comparison the Banana Republic here only carries up to an American Size 6 and the length is adjusted to fit the Asian Physique.

5 Great strategies to Fulfillment as a Single Parent by Single Parents University Part 2

As a Stylist I meet many people who have recently separated and who have had a huge transformation in their life style. All of a sudden S.I.N.G.L.E again. What to wear, what to say, not sure what works any more, lost that sense of confidence in what to wear.

I am happily married to my gorgeous husband Sal but he has experienced being a single parent to 3 great kids 15 years ago and I know how hard it was for him! So when I heard of Single Parents University and their CD program I wanted to share it with you.

www.singleparentsuniversity.com (SPU) was set up to support Single Parents through the process of separation, divorce and beyond. It was created in the spirit of reaching out to single parents, just like us and sharing insights on how to become single, strong and successful.

Feel Like a Failure?
5 Great strategies to change your feelings from Failure to Fulfillment - Be Proud of Yourself
By: SPU (Single Parents University)

When one goes thru separation and divorce they cannot help experiencing intense emotional feelings such as failure, disappointment, anger, resentment and regret. Whether you initiated the end of the relationship or not most people feel just lost, scared, unworthy and depressed. A divorce usually leaves people at the end of their tether. This is normal and you are not alone.
An ending of a marriage/relationship is an enormous step and change in ones life. The fact that children are involved makes it even bigger. Unfortunately most people would rather remain in an unhappy relationship than leave. If you find the courage to let go of an unhappy marriage/relationship or are forced into doing so, the following 5 strategies can assist you to uplift your feelings from desperation to determined, from insanity to serenity and to realize you really are a winner and should be proud of yourself.

1. Turn regrets into thankfulness.
You decided to marry, with good intention – for better or worst, till death do us part – it wasn't in your plans to divorce. You married to share your life happily with your partner. Unfortunately your relationship did not turn out but instead of feeling like you have wasted x amount of years or feeling angry and bitter with resentment, try to stop and think about what you did like in that relationship?
Why did you choose that partner at that time?
What qualities did they have that you admired?
Reflect on the fun times and what you are thankful for. E.g. having had an amazing daughter or son.

5 Great strategies to change your feelings from Failure to Fulfillment - Be Proud of Yourself" with you so stay tuned!

Most people know of someone who is going through a separation or divorce. If it is yourself, then you will relate to this article even more. When you first realise that this is real and not just a nightmare – that your marriage is over you have to get on with your life, It’s like starting all over again. Actually, it’s better than that,  you now have experience behind you, of what you like, do not like, and of how you want and Image001don’t want to be treated.

This daunting time can actually be the beginning of the best years of your life.  Hard to believe now, I know, but if you take the right steps and get the right information to learn from it all, you will look back and realise it was a major, positive turning point in your life.

So YOU are a SINGLE Parent Now.  Yes, SINGLE, again! Overwhelming, maybe, but let us face the facts, your life has changed and now you have the opportunity to create it just the way you want. You, like me, changed. In the way you dressed, did your hair, what you bought, what you ate and what activities you were allowed to do. These were all subject to the approval, or, in some cases the “ordering” of your ex-partner.  You have probably changed your personality too – become quieter or snappier. Now it’s time to look at the type of person that YOU want to be!

That’s why Angela from Style Angel Corporation suggested we help people like you. Our Single Parents University Program “The 7 Steps to being Single, Strong & Successful” will guide you through the process of rebuilding your self confidence and getting to re-establish who you are.

How to Ask for a Discount on your Next Shopping Trip

AB-GNp_41
Personal Shopping is one of my favorite Experiences in my bag of Personal Styling Consultations. I have done so many of them and the buzz is still the same. I literally forget everything around me and I am 100% focused on finding my client outfits and accessories that they love and that look great on them. My results are great and my clients amazed (have a look on the Style Angel website for their comments!!)

Last week I had 5 Personal Shopping Clients and I traveled from Westfield Miranda to Sydney CBD and Castle Towers and on all occasions we asked for discounts as we bought many items in one go. I have really noticed that from last year, retailers are far more ready and willing to look after their clientele and you will be successful!

Ist2_4127401_boutique_shopping
Here are some tips:

  1. You will be more successful if you buy your winter wardrobe in one shopping session. The more you spend the more likely you are to get a discount between 10-15%.
  2. Don't be afraid to ask for a discount in Major Department Stores like Myer or David Jones. The trick is to get a Manager employed by the Department Store and not an employee from a concession store as they don't have the authority to apply the discount.
  3. If you have to wait for the right person, do it, the more set you are on getting a nice sum off your purchases the more likely you are to get one.
  4. Sign up for Loyalty or VIP programs. I know that JacquiE gives you a 15% off your purchases on the spot when you sign up for their VIP program.
  5. Check Westfield stores for promotions as they often give you a Gift Card when you spend over a certain amount. (Myer and DJ's excluded so if you can buy the same thing at another store why not be smart about it!)
  6. Here is my little secret .... visualise the discount already given to you with a little help from above.

If you struggle at the shops and you literally walk out with nothing in complete overwhelm, it would be worth your while looking into booking in! You will learn so much on how to find the right things and what brands suit you and how to pick those pieces that just work for you! Contact me if you would like to know more!

This is what Lisa said about her 2 Hour Personal Shopping Experience that took place last Saturday 27th of June 2009 in Parramatta Westfield:
"I wish I had have known about Angela sooner! I bought more clothes in 2 hours that suited my colouring, my shape and my personality than I had managed to buy over my entire lifetime. Angela has a real knack at knowing what clothes will look great and feel comfortable. I no longer have to face my wardrobe each morning wondering what on earth I will wear...I came away with an entire wardrobe of clothes, shoes and accessories that feel amazing, together with an idea of what type of clothes suit my colouring and shape and the confidence to try something different..all in 2 hours of shopping! Thanks Angela, now when I go out I dress like a confident and feminine young mother as opposed to an 18 year old tomboy and it feels fantastic! I hope to see you again in the summer!"
